Notes on my half of the split:

Fully improvised and presented here just as it was recorded without any editing or post production. My half of this split (tracks 1-6) was recorded over a 24 hour period (1/29-1/30).

As with all of my past releases, these tracks were created using photographic raw data (digital images converted to sound, and later manipulated).

When Ken reached out, I had just released my album KAOSO and I was still very much in a chaotic and improvisational mindset so I took the opportunity to revisit the raw data I used to create my first three EPs (v`eidr`ik, Hermetic Flux and Lyssna). Those releases were crafted very deliberately and I wanted to see what was possible with a completely free-form approach. The resulting tracks bear no resemblance whatsoever to what I originally created with them.

The track titles are non-sequential excerpts from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's epic poem, The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere. Prior to working on this split, I had been thinking a great deal about the concept of the albatross as a metaphor for a curse of psychological burden. In many ways, my recent foray into fully improvised noise represents an attempt to escape from my own albatross, for better or worse.
